This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher to join the Silicon Photonics Group within the Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) at the University of Surrey. A four year research fellowship is available to work on the design and simulation, and experimental investigation of a series of optical devices, most notably optical couplers and filters, fabricated in silicon, on the SOI platform. This will involve investigation and optimisation of the detailed optical and electronic properties of the proposed devices, overseeing the fabrication, and evaluation of fabricated devices. The work will involve close scientific interaction with the other consortium partners to ensure CMOS compatibility of materials, and processing requirements. The work will also involve presenting results of the work at conferences around the world, contributing to the project management, and together with the collaborators, helping in developing the direction of the project. Candidates should have a PhD and experience in the design, modelling, preparation, experimental measurement, and analysis of optoelectronic devices in silicon.
The UK Silicon Photonics Consortium, led by the University of Surrey, has received funding of £5 Million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The consortium includes the universities of Surrey, St. Andrews, Leeds, Warwick, and Southampton as well as industrial and international participation from Qinetiq Ltd and the European research centres IMEC, and LETI. The project will be directed by Prof. Graham Reed of Surrey University. Several posts will shortly be available, for researchers and research students to work on the project at Surrey.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Professor Graham T Reed (email@example.com)
The duration of this post is up to 48 months.
